Sekhmet es la diosa de la curación y al mismo tiempo, una diosa guerrera.

Desde la época antigua, solía tener relación con Ra, debido a que algunos egipcios la identificaban como su hija por ser una deidad solar.

Era la protectora de los faraones, los cuales guió a la guerra para morir. Aunque, una vez la muerte los alcanzaba, los seguía protegiendo hasta el más allá.

Sekhmet, era una diosa hija del dios del sol Ra o el ojo de Ra. Según la cosmogonía de Menfis, era madre del dios loto Nefertum y esposa de Ptah, el dios de los artesanos.

Su importancia, erradicaba entre las que actuaban con las intenciones negativas del poder que contenía el dios Ra. De ello se decía que los vientos cálidos que se encuentran en el desierto tenían relación con su respiración de fuego.

Al mismo tiempo que infundía plagas y enfermedades por medio de su furia, podía retirarlas y causar salud, lo que hacía que fuera deseada y a la vez temida.
